Meeting: 26/01/2026 - Senedd Commission (Item 5)

Independent Advisers' recruitment

Supporting documents:

  • Restricted enclosure 2

Minutes:

Current contracts for two of the Commission’s five Independent Advisers (Bob Evans and Aled Eirug) were to come to an end in November 2026; both will have competed the maximum two terms. The other three advisers had been appointed to second terms running to Nov 2027.

Commissioners agreed that recruitment activity could begin in the spring, to identify two candidates in readiness for the vacancies arising in November.

Commissioners also supported the proposal to continue recruiting subject-specific expertise as needs evolve. At this time this would include an Adviser with a recognised finance, accountancy or audit qualification, and one with Dignity and Respect expertise.

They agreed an approach to the recruitment activity and indicated support for an approach to the chairing of the ARAC committee for the period from November 2026, which would allow a new Adviser, with a recognised finance, accountancy or audit qualification, to become familiar with the work of the Commission and ARAC.

Meeting: 23/09/2024 - Senedd Commission (Item 6)

Independent Advisors

Supporting documents:

  • Restricted enclosure 5

Minutes:

Commissioners considered information about the contractual position of the Commission’s current Independent Advisers. They agreed to offer an extension to the existing contract of Aled Eurig until 26 November 2026. This would provide consistency of the chairs of the two advisory committees over the period of transition to the Seventh Senedd.

They agreed to consider the requirements of a recruitment exercise for the next cohort of Independent Advisers, and the proposed approach to that exercise, which includes continuing to stagger appointments, in Spring ’25.

Meeting: 19/03/2018 - Senedd Commission (Item 2)

Appointment of new Independent Advisers to the Commission

Supporting documents:

  • Restricted enclosure 8

Minutes:

Commissioners considered proposals for the recruitment and selection of a new cohort of Independent Advisers in 2018 and 2019, in preparation for the end of the current arrangements.

The Commission’s Independent Advisors act in a non-executive and non-political capacity, providing advice and constructive challenge to Commissioners and senior management on many aspects of the Commission’s business. Three Independent Advisors, along with one Commissioner make up ACARAC while the Commission’s Remuneration Committee is also made up of three Advisors.

Commissioners agreed to the recruitment proposals, with the recruitment and selection exercise to be managed internally whilst making use of an executive search agency to identify candidates to a long-list stage.
