Health and social care workforce

The Health and Social Care Committee has identified the health and social care workforce as a cross-cutting theme for the Sixth Senedd.

 

In addition to embedding consideration of issues relating to the workforce in all of its activity (see relevant inquiry webpages for information), the Committee will also undertake specific activity focusing on the workforce.

 

To date the Committee has:

>>>Held a series of pre-appointment hearings for significant health and social care public appointments

>>>In autumn 2021, issued a targeted call for written evidence on the joint Health Education and Improvement Wales and Social Care Wales workforce strategy: A healthier Wales: our workforce strategy for health and social care.

>>>On 4 November 2021, held an oral evidence session on the joint workforce strategy with Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) and Social Care Wales (SCW) to consider their joint strategy. Following the session the Committee wrote to HEIW and SCW, Digital Health and Care Wales, and to health and social care unions.

>>>On 8 December 2022, visited the University of South Wales School of Nursing to meet students, staff and academics and see the facilities.

>>>On 26 January 2023, held a scrutiny session with the Chief Nursing Officer for Wales.
